Ideas for School Fundraising
![]() |
If you find yourself as a member of your school's PTO or PTA, or if your children are active in any extracurricular activities then you will probably get involved in fundraising. Schools are always looking for creative ways to raise funds for special trips and supplies so if you are looking for some ideas to make your next school fundraising effort a success, read on!
First keep in mind that you should get the students involved. Don't just present them with a school fundraising plan that you have already developed, make some suggestions and ask them what they think a good fundraiser would be. The children may come up with some wild and wacky ideas but consider them all. Once you have considered all the ideas present the kids with several options for a school fundraising and let them vote for their favorite. If the kids feel it is their own project they will put all their enthusiasm into it and turn it into a success.
There are dozens of great ways to achieving a successful school fundraising project and you could encourage the students to sell items to friends, family, and community members if the school would benefit. There are a lot of companies out there that offer fantastic merchandise and colorful catalogs for potential buyers to look through. Some good ideas for items to sell include gourmet candies, coffee, popcorn, scented candles, bath and beauty products and collectibles. All of these items represent just a small fraction of the items that are available to sell for a school fundraising.
One popular way of raising school funds is to hold an event open to the community. For example you might have a home bake sale, a yard sale, or conduct auctions and car washes. If you ask the parents and the students to donate some of their time and talent you can make these events a great success. Another dependable idea is to hold a raffle. You can usually organize a raffle in conjunction with another event like a sale or festival where the community attends. Just ask local businesses and craftspeople to donate some raffle prizes then charge an amount for the tickets that is appropriate for the value of the prizes but never too expensive for the ordinary visitors who are attending the event. Some good raffle prizes would include gift certificates, handmade crafts like quilts, fine art, books, gift baskets, and many many more things that your visitors would enjoy winning.
One more idea for a school fundraiser involves selling items to the students themselves. Items such as cute pens, book covers, lollipops, ice cream are things that kids in school would enjoy or need. Try to keep the prices very reasonable so that the kids can easily afford them. In a large school with a lot of students, a dollar here and a dollar there really adds up!
A fundraising can be good for the whole school if it brings everyone together with one purpose and if it is organized right it can be great fun for everybody involved. Fundraising can be a whole lot of fun and helpful too.
